Description
This German Mauser M-1898/05 Bayonet, which was a German Bayonet of the First World War. It was intended for use on the standard issue service rifle: the Mauser-designed Gewehr 98 (GEW 98). The blade ricasso is maker marked as “WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER A.G. OBERNDORF a.N.” It features a heavy 10-inch steel blade. This version has a flashguard on the back of the grip.
This example has a very desirable “sawback” blade. The blade finish is very nice, with minimal staining on the bright steel blade. The sawback itself is in the condition as pictured.
This has original grooved wood grips with wear and handling marks consistent with it’s age. The bayonet lock is fully functional.
This steel scabbard came with this bayonet and does not have the retaining spring; we are not claiming that it is the original for the 98/05.
